February 15, 2018 - Kestrel Communications
Kestrel Communications has migrated from the Denver, Colorado region to the Pacific Northwest. Following a relocation and sabbatical in 2017, Douglas and Rebecca Cramer are now actively developing opportunities to be of service to the communities of the thriving Kitsap Peninsula in the West Puget Sound region of Washington, with wild woodsy Olympic National Park to the west and Seattle a ferry ride to the east.
In 2018, we will be taking major steps towards fully drawing on our extensive professional experiences, skills, and passions in order to participate in fruitful projects that further healthy and sustainable economic growth here in our precious adopted home on the Salish Sea. The Kitsap Economic Development Alliance says of the region:
Located in the Central Puget Sound, Kitsap County offers all the benefits of the Seattle/Tacoma Market without the gridlock and high prices. Kitsap residents and visitors enjoy nearly 300 miles of scenic salt water coastline, friendly, laid-back communities, award-winning golf courses, ready access to transportation for individuals and commerce, a county-wide, high-speed fiber optic backbone, and more. A small-town sense of community combined with a big-city sense for business give Kitsap a distinct personality that’s nothing short of irresistible.
We're eager to dive right in to the richness on offer here and begin contributing. We're also striving to maintain a "Beginner's Mind" so that we don't carry forward misplaced assumptions, and to first learn from those who have built deep relationships with this land and her people. To this end, two of our first commitments in Washington are to unique organizations with practices worthy of study and serving as models for other regions:
Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network - BARN’s mission is to build and support an open, intergenerational community of artisans and makers who are dedicated to learning, teaching, sharing, and inspiring each other with creativity, craftsmanship and community service. Our goal is to create a true community center, using craft as a magnet to bring together people who would not normally know one another or have opportunities to collaborate.
The Mountaineers - The Mountaineers is a nonprofit outdoor community of 12,000+ active members in the Pacific Northwest. Founded in 1906, we've been getting people of all ages outside safely and responsibly for over 100 years. We host hundreds of monthly courses and activities - all led by our coalition of volunteers - to offer ways to get outside and connect with people passionate about the outdoors. We think it's important to introduce people to the outdoors early and often, and we work to protect the outdoor experience for future generations.
